Sawtell Croquet Club hosts Ricochet Singles Croquet Carnival

Block A winner David Scott, and Block B winner Kay Munro.

AFTER three days of humidity and even hotter competition on the greens, the Ricochet Singles Carnival was decided over the Easter long weekend at the Sawtell Croquet Club.

Players from Cherry Street Ballina, EDSACC Central Coast, Tweed Heads, and host club Sawtell competed for the carnival win.

The competition was a double round robin, Round 1 being level play and Round 2 a handicap.

David Scott from Ballina Cherry St was the number one seed and won seven of the eight games, which was a great effort after spending eight hours on the court on Day 3.

Three Sawtell Croquet Club members excelled at their home event.

Sawtell’s Rod Munro was the only player to beat David Scott in Block A, and was the runner-up with five wins.
Sawtell’s Kay Munro won all her games to win Block B.

The battle for second place was hotly contested between Graeme Marshall of Sawtell and Darren Warner of EDSACC.

Warner defeated Marshall in the final round to secure second place.

Warner had just come home from competing in the Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games in Rotorua, New Zealand, winning Gold in the Doubles with fellow competitor Phil Monds.

Sawtell Croquet Club is a friendly club offering both social and competitive play, including Association, Golf Croquet and Ricochet.

Visitors and social groups are welcome, with come and try days and coaching available.

Anyone interested in playing can contact Jenny on 0411 197 452.
