
PORT Stephens surfers were well represented at the 2019 Maitland and Port Stephens Toyota Wildcard Trials which were held at Birubi Beach over the weekend.

Locals who have entered included Josh Stretton, Mike Clayton-Brown, Elle Clayton-Brown, Nelson Corner, Isaac Sullivan
and Taj Turner.
The Winners of the Wild Card events will automatically gain entry into the Surfest Competition including entry into QS6000 Burton Automotive Pro, QS6000 Surfest Women’s Pro, 1 Star Surfest Men’s Pro Junior, 1 Star Surfest Women’s Pro Junior, with the winner of 16 years Boys receives free entry and number one seed into Sanbah Cadet Boys 16 years division, the winner of 16 years Girls receives free entry and number one seed into Sanbah Cadet Girls 16 years division and the winner of 14 years Boys receives free entry and number one seed Into Sanbah Cadet Boys 14 years division.
Participation in Surfest is a great opportunity for Port Stephens surfers who already enjoy local knowledge and experience of the surf conditions where the event will be held.
Local junior surfer Josh Stretton told News Of The Area, “I love this event as it’s in my home break, it was great to get 2nd in the under 18’s last year and I’m really looking forward to competing against some of the best local surfers this weekend”.
Josh is proud to be a team rider for both Simon from Tsunami Surfer And Steel from SLD Boards.
In 2018 Josh won the SUP Australian National Junior Men’s Title was the Under 18’s King of the Box Winner and came an impressive third in the Open Men’s SUP Australian National Titles.
Congratulations to Port Stephen’s Elle Clayton-Brown who will be competing in the women’s WSL Qualifying Series event after winning at the Wildcards.
