President of Raymond Terrace Lions, Judith Bee, told News Of The Area, “This great afternoon is just a way of thanking and rewarding all our wonderful helpers and volunteers throughout the year.”

“It’s our way of thanking everyone for the countless volunteer hours that are put into all the activities we do, by people who don’t expect anything in return.”

This year alone, the Lions club have participated in or organised a plethora of community activities.

These include, but are not limited to; Christmas gift wrapping, driver reviver, Seaham Carols, selling cakes and puddings, feeding the firies, community barbecues, ‘host the diggers’ dinners and Youth Of The Year.

All monies made by the Lions Club goes directly back into the community.

In 2016, they provided funds to install seating at Riverside Park, in 2017 they donated significant funds to aid research into childhood cancers, and in 2018 they are planning to erect shade structures at Riverside Park.

Bob Findley, a director of Raymond Terrace Lions and cabinet treasurer of the District Lions, was in attendance at this years Presidents Barbecue, and was vocal in encouraging people to come along and try out their group.

“We are always on the lookout for new members, our current members range from early twenties to the late eighties.’

“Allan Cox, one of the original charter members, is still a treasured member of our Club.”

“We have people from all walks of life, so you’re guaranteed to find people you can enjoy time with,” he said.

Bob is a past district Governor of Lions, and a life member of Lions International.

He was awarded an OAM for Community Work in the Queen’s Birthday honours for 2017.

He added, “We are thankful to everyone who joins us to volunteer, and also our respective partners for encouraging and supporting the time we spend on Lions activities.”

The Raymond Terrace Lions meet twice a month at the Raymond Terrace Bowling Club, on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm except for Christmas time, and their barbecue in January.
