Sawtell win North Coast Premier League title

ONE of the region’s best sporting clubs has added the latest title to its considerable trophy cabinet.

Sawtell Cricket Club are North Coast cricket champions after winning the recent North Coast Cricket Council’s Premier League grand final.

Sawtell won the 2020/21 premiership with a 34-run win against the Northern Districts Rebels in their two-day match at Richardson Park.

Sawtell won back-to-back Premier League titles capping off a stellar season in which they finished as minor premiers.

Sawtell opened the batting in the season decider and were all out for 190 from 72.4 overs.

Trent Mitchell top scored for the home side with 51, while Trent Dierick and Ty Murphy both scored 37.

Lachlan Carlyle and Blake Austin both produced stellar spells for the Rebels, with Carlyle taking 4/58 from his 27.4 overs and Blake Austin taking 4/58 from 22 overs.

Needing to defend 190 and with the Premier League title on the line, Sawtell’s bowlers rose to the occasion to dismiss the Rebels for 156.

Trent Dierick backed up his efforts with the bat taking 3/57 from his 21 overs.

Taj Dosanjh had a true captain’s knock for the Rebels top scoring with 55.
