Boyd Oval in Medowie played host to the second social event of this kind last Saturday (19 January). With a welcoming cool change the Medowie residents came out in force to enjoy and support the event. There was something for all taste buds and dietary requirements. Savoury cuisine included paella, nachos, Vietnamese, and burgers. While desserts were on offer in abundance with macaroons, ice-cream, eclairs, and churros. Choux Patisserie owner, Tara Poelaert said, “It was really nice to do this or the first time in Medowie.” “It is lovely to able to do something in smaller areas.” Relaxing on rugs picnic style, the growing crowd enjoyed the vocals of local singer Arlen Black. Jumping castles ensured the children were able to burnoff the extra energy. Medowie teen, Hayley Carmody said, “The festival was a great opportunity to catch up with some friends and to relax with some awesome music.” Medowie resident, Nicole Gentle said, “There was an amazing range of delightful food, with a relaxed atmosphere perfect for a family friendly get together.” Street Food Social was an idea born from the well known Sacred Tree Markets. Ms Rowarth told News Of The Area, “We noticed a demand for this type of event receiving endless calls and requests about what food we were having at the markets.” “We are ecstatic and loved going out to Medowie.” Ms Rowarth said, “We are so excited that the community embraced the social event, ideally we would like to run them about four times a year throughout Port Stephens.” “To do this long term we may need to seek corporate sponsorship, so for now we are gauging a response from the communities.” The next Street Food Social will be held at Fly Point Park in Nelson Bay on Sunday 27 January.
