Medowie grandmother Monique Bortoli is attempting ten extraordinary challenges to raise money and awareness for people affected by domestic violence.

The funds raised will go directly to the Yacaaba Centre, a front line organisation in Port Stephens helping people get in safe homes and start rebuilding their lives.

All challenges will be personally funded.

Ms Bortoli told News Of The Area, “The challenges range from ultra marathons to adventure races, leading up to the most important challenge of the ten.”

“Seventy-nine laps of Mount Tomaree, approximately 174km, one lap in honour of every lady who has lost their life to domestic violence in 2018.”

Using her passion for adventure sports Ms Bortoli will speak out against family violence encourage others to do the same.

Ms Bortoli said, “I will support, encourage and inspire people affected by domestic violence to get out, get safe and recover their lives, and I will involve my community to make this happen.”

The first of the challenges was a 60km stand up paddleboard in Myall Lakes, which was completed on Saturday 19 January.

Ms Bortoli said, “The weather was perfect for the first couple in hours, then the southerly created chaos for us.”

“It was very hard work and we were sometimes even traveling backwards.”

Ms Bortoli said, “We raised $2235 for the Yacaaba Centre on my first challenge.”

“Now I will rest, recharge and reset for the second challenge in four weeks.”

The remaining nine challenges are:

2. Lake Macquarie adventure race
3. 25 km trail run to the top of Mount Kosciuszko
