THE King Family are well known to residents in both Karuah and Medowie, so it was no surprise that the community banded together to plan a night to support Jason King, to help relieve some financial pressure on his family when he was diagnosed with Cancer.

Jason King first showed signs of back pain in 2014, which was originally misdiagnosed as a bulging disc, but a second opinion diagnosed him with a ten-centimetre-long tumour in his spine.

Jason underwent surgery to remove the tumour, which was thought to be successful.

However, in 2015, a surgery to remove varicose veins turned a lot more serious when a scan of his chest to rule out a blood clot on his lungs showed his thymus gland to be enlarged.

The week after his second child was born, Jason was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

With 16 rounds of chemotherapy ahead, and Jason’s wife Kate on maternity leave to care for their new daughter and him, money is tight and their focus needs to be on their family.

Coles Medowie decided to do some fundraising, with the major event, Kingy’s Trivia, being held this week at the Medowie Bull ‘n’ Bush Hotel.

A wonderful night was had with a packed full house of sold out tables.

A night of hilarity was had by all, with humorous rounds of trivia, and a successful auction during intermission with a large table of donated generous items from local businesses.

The winners of the Trivia night were the vivacious team of Sportz Café Medowie staff and friends, who were awarded with a banquet dinner to be had at Medowie Chinese Restaurant.

The grand total for the evening came to $6,138, which was announced on the night to loud cheers.

News Of The Area wishes the King Family all the best, and hopes for a full recovery for Jason, so that he may enjoy his young family.
