THE Salvation Army will be able to assist many people in need thanks to the Bulahdelah community who dug deep during last weekend’s Red Shield Appeal.

“The community were brilliant, they were very generous with their donations,” Lions Club member Helen Amendolia said.

“Every bit given will make a big difference to someone in need.”

In a typical week, The Salvation Army provides 100,000 meals, 2,000 beds for people experiencing homelessness, distributes up to 8,000 grocery vouchers and provides refuge for 500 people fleeing abuse.

Helen said she supports the appeal every year, as the donations mean the Salvos can continue to provide assistance where it is needed the most.

“The Salvation Army does such a wonderful job, whenever there is a crisis, they are always there to help,” she said.

Bulahdelah Lions Club President Roger Dixon coordinated the local collection, with Helen and fellow club member Carol Tattersall volunteering their time for the cause.

“It makes you feel good knowing that you are part of a process that’s all about helping people,” Carol told News Of The Area.

“It was good to see the community being so generous as well, and we know the donations are going to assist people who desperately need the help.”

Helen and Carol were amongst the 60,000 volunteers across the country who assisted during last weekend’s annual appeal.
