Snappers Women Relishing Super 7s Opportunity

Coffs Harbour Snappers were undefeated in 2021.

THE Coffs Harbour Snappers women are relishing the opportunity to play in the North Coast 7s which kicks off on 6 November in Grafton with round two in Coffs Harbour on 20 November.

The Snappers women had a stellar 2021 going undefeated for the season but were deprived of a grand final berth due to the restrictions on community sport.

Club captain Greta Smith told News Of The Area she can’t wait to get back on the field and make the most of an epic opportunity.

“The 7s series coming up is an amazing opportunity for the women on the North Coast.

“It should draw quite a crowd and bring more attention to the women playing rugby, hopefully bringing more girls and women into the sport.

“It’s going to be an epic couple of weekends with some tough teams to come up against but an awesome opportunity to grow our skills and make some good connections,” said Greta.

Halfback Ashlee Downton and Greta Smith played on the big stage at the Super W Series in April when their Select team emphatically defeated the Presidents XV in the last seconds of the game.

Ashlee is looking forward to showcasing the women’s game in front of a home crowd on 20 November when they play at C.ex Coffs International Stadium.

“It’s so great to see multiple teams from up and down the coast line have the opportunity to play in a tournament.

“As women we are very fortunate to now have experiences where we can not only improve on our skills but show others what an incredible sport it is.

“This series will hopefully provide further pathways for the growth of country rugby in both men and women,” said Ashlee.
