“We were shocked when the executive of the NSW State RSL governing body came under scrutiny in relation to ‘consultancy fees’ paid to some of them,” he said.

“Alex Niven, our treasurer, and I attended a District Council meeting recently and backed a motion that called for the standing down of State Council until this matter had been resolved. Many other sub- branches have done the same.”

Mr Cartwright said the “unpleasant episode” had reflected poorly on membership and fundraising initiatives.

“Both our Women’s Auxiliary and the Sub-Branch use the funds to look after our members’ welfare, pay insurances and fund our Remembrance and Anzac Day commemorations. We also donate to both Salt Ash and Tanilba Bay schools.”

Mr Cartwright said that a memorial wall at the entrance to the club to honour the memory of those locals who have served the nation will be erected in the near future.

“I’d ask all locals to continue to contribute the way they have in the past as we need your help to provide the care and assistance for our veterans and to keep the spirit of ANZAC alive for the next generation.”
