Now christmas and the New Year celebrations are all over and done with, it’s back to business for many of the Myall Community Associations.

Last Friday the Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens Progress Association held a very successful sausage sizzle in the Surf Club carpark at Bennetts Beach.

“The sizzle was held to raise funds so that Progress Association can cover some of its costs of administration and representing the community on many matters,” Association President Trevor Jennings told News Of The Area.

“For example, the Association recently donated $1,700 to the local Rural Fire Service for the purchase of much needed safety equipment,” Trevor said.

If you missed out last Friday, head to Bennetts Beach again this Friday 20 January between 8am and 2pm for a delicious sangar and ice cold drink.

Another group getting back into the swing of things is the Grey and Thespian Mardi Gras Committee.

They’re holding their first meeting of 2017 on Thursday 19 January at 10am in the Old Library Building on the corner of Booner Street and Tulao Street, Hawks Nest.

The Festival, now in its second year, will be held over the weekend of 7 to 9 April.

This year’s theme is nautical and will celebrate senior citizens and their contribution to the community.

The Grey & Thespian Mardi Gras is an initiative of the Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens Progress Association Inc and Myall Coast Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Inc.

It is organised with the valued assistance of the Myall Coast Entertainers, Myall U3A, Hawks Nest Golf Club, Great Lakes Council and a supporting cast of tireless, enthusiastic volunteers.
