KINDERGARTEN, Year One and Year Two at St Joseph’s Bulahdelah participated in a virtual video conference with children’s author Leigh Hobbs.

Leigh Hobbs was being interviewed at the Sydney Opera House by Curly from ‘Creative Learning’.
Leigh Hobbs is the author and illustrator of many children’s book including ‘Old Tom’s Holiday’, ‘Old Tom: Man of Mystery’, ‘Fiona the Pig’, ‘Mr Chicken goes to Paris’, ‘Mr Chicken lands on London’, ‘Mr Chicken Arriva a Rome’ and ‘Horrible Harriet’ just to name a few.
The purpose of the virtual video conference was to foster a love of literature in children and encourage them to read, write and create.
Leigh explained to the children that he always wanted to be an artist and children’s literature is a way to share the characters he developed in stories that people can relate to.
He spoke to the children about a new book he is currently working on which will be called ‘Mr Chicken comes to Australia’, he even showed the children his sketchbook with some illustrations he is currently working on.
Leigh told the children that anyone can develop a character, all you need to do is draw a shape and then give it eyes, a nose, ears and a mouth.
The children enjoyed listening to Leigh, asking him questions and learning about how and why he creates children’s books.
Isn’t it amazing that through the power of video conferencing children are able to be in the moment at the Opera House and discussing writing with a famous author.
