MIDCOAST Council is asking the Hawks Nest Tea Gardens community to identify the improvements needed to the Hawks Nest Community Centre, which will be funded thanks to a $300,000 Federal Government community development grant.

Consisting of an existing hall building plus a demountable building, the centre currently fails to meet the needs of many community groups, forcing them to seek alternate venues for their activities.
“We’re asking these groups, along with other community members, to tell us what improvements they need to the centre, in order to make it fit for purpose,” said Council’s Manager Community Spaces, Recreation and Trades, Dan Aldridge.
“As part of the project the demountable building will be removed, to make way for a renovation and extension to the existing community hall building, allowing for improved facilities under the one roof.”
Community consultation will take place in two phases, firstly to identify community needs for the facility, and secondly to obtain feedback on design concepts developed as a result of this community input, which will be presented in a second consultation in November this year.
Two drop-in sessions will be held at Council’s Tea Gardens District Office on Wednesday 14 August, from 2pm – 4pm and from 5.30pm – 7pm. Everyone is welcome to drop in, meet with project team members and provide some input into their needs for the community centre.
“We’d like to hear how people use the space now, what facilities they need, and what would like to see included in the centre,” said Mr Aldridge. “This information will help us in preparing design concepts for the improvements.”
