SEASCAPES and silhouettes captured in paint and crayon, were amongst the 35 impressive artworks on display at St Joseph’s Primary School’s Art and Cultural Evening held in Bulahdelah last week.
The masterpieces were created by the students, who were guided through the creative process by Learning Support Officer, Maria Stubbs.
The young artists experimented with techniques involving design, colour, volume and depth, and were extremely proud as their ideas came to life on the canvas.
“My painting is about the underwater, with many sea creatures and seaweed,” student Akshay Sivaprasad told News Of The Area.
“I like drawing and painting, it was fun to make and worth the effort.”
Parents and community members gathered to admire each of the masterpieces and were impressed with the artistic flair shown by the budding Renoirs and Van Goghs.
Community member, Maureen Matheson, said the evening was a showcase of young, local talent.
“It was great to view the work done by the students and see all their efforts and hard work pay off,” she said.
At the end of the evening, parents were able to purchase the artworks which will now take pride and place in their homes for many years to come.
Talents in the performing arts were also on show, with the students presenting a concert full of music and dance to the delight of the audience.
Principal, Mrs Joanne Trotter, said the Cultural Evening is held every two years.
“The event is always very popular, we get great support from the school community,” she said.
“The school is always proud to be part of the community, and we are always proud for students to showcase their work and express themselves through art.”
Mrs Trotter said the funds raised during the evening will go towards purchasing technology resources for the school.
