Year seven Human Science and it’s Environment (HSIE) at Irrawang HIgh School, are continuing the school’s strong stance on recycling and reducing their waste, with their ‘Lead the Cycle 2 Recycle’ campaign.
They want to see change and find a better way of recycling in all schools.
During their studies, the students found themselves surprised at the lack of importance for separating waste and recycling, and the lack of recycling bins in New South Wales schools.
They took it upon themselves to set a goal to make some noise, and hopefully bring about some change in the process.
As a class team, they have written to the Premier, the Ministers for Environment, Education, and Local Government asking for action.
They have also created an online petition, outlining the need for more to be done to make an impact on waste and recycling in our schools, homes and communities.
The students urge you to sign the petition, which will be presented to our local member of parliament Kate Washington, MP.
Team member Emily Whittington told News Of The Area, “We’ve grown up recycling at home but we don’t do it as often as we should be at school – and we should be.”
Sibella Rowan added, “It’s an easy thing to do, so I don’t know why we aren’t just doing it.”
“Let’s get behind this campaign to see every school in New South Wales and Australia provided with special recycling bins.”
“Together we can make a difference, and all we need is your support for this fantastic initiative.”
