TO begin, four teams, that is 16 bowlers headed down south to compete in the 2017 State Carnival which was held 22-26 May.

The host club was Warilla, teams were split between 16 sections, games played at Warilla, Albion Park, Figtree, Windang and Towradgi Park Bowling Clubs.

Unfortunately none of our teams made it through to the semi finals but we all enjoyed a great week of friendship and bowling.  The team of Karen McPhie, Robyn Webster, Deyonne Page and Elizabeth Kelly managed to win 4 out of 6 games and gained 3rd spot in their section on one day of play.

Personally speaking it was a great opportunity to learn how to adapt to different playing surfaces, watch some great bowling, improve  bowling skills and have fun.

Looking forward to the next State Carnival in 2018 which will be held at the same venue.

Social bowls played on Tuesday 23rd May, 2 games of triples and a game of Fours.

A good win to Pam Gilchrist (played lead “swinger”), Carol Hayden and Olive McKeown 30 v Bette Saillard and Jill McBride 19. Julie Kennedy, Jo Younghusband and Maynie Roberts just defeating Pauline Perry, Christine Fossey and Dale Winter by 2 shots 18 v 16.

The winners of the fours were Bev Dunn, Bev Stephens, Margaret Smith (these two ladies playing half a game each) and Kathie Rimmer scoring 26 v Dorothy Thompson, Sheril Johnson, Lily Smith and Wendy Brand 14. The overall winners were Julie Kennedy, Jo Younghusband and Maynie Roberts for a win with the lowest margin.

Congratulations to Kayelene Pearson, Robyn Beaumont and Lynne Green for becoming Newcastle District Representative Bowlers. We are all very proud of your achievements.
