The prominent four-day event will see over 150 competitors, aged 35 and above, battle it out in an attempt to secure a NSW shortboard title and a spot in the national titles at the 2019 SAE Group Australian Surf Championships in Tweed Heads.

Port Stephens local Jay Phillips will fly the flag for the Port Stephens region at the event.

Taking on former World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour surfers and Australian Champions including Shane Wehner of Broulee, Rod Baldwin of Copacabana, Jake Spooner of Bulli and Glenn Pringle of Cronulla.

Midcoast Council Mayor David West commented, “MidCoast Council is proud to be supporting the NSW Surfmasters at beautiful Boomerang Beach. We have a strong history of supporting these types of events and we’re proud to have a strong relationship with Surfing NSW which continues to deliver great events in the MidCoast.”

“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our beautiful backyard, the Barrington Coast to visitors from near and far,” he said.

Divisions for the event include: Over 35 Men, Over 35 Women, Over 40 Men, Over 45 Men, Over 50 Men, Over 55 Men, Over 60 Men and Open Single Fin.
