Celebrations at Hawks Nest are being organised by Tea Gardens Lioness Club and include the annual Citizen of the Year presentation.

Club Secretary Ann Hill told News Of The Area they are expecting around 600 people to join the celebrations.

“We are hoping that all locals and visitors can come along,” she said.

“All money raised will go back into the local community.”

Eight-year-old Claire Tufrey said she will be dressing in Aussie colours for the festivities.

“It’s always lots of fun and I am looking forward to enjoying the day with my family and friends,” she said.

Karuah RSL Club is known to go all out for their celebrations, and this year is certainly no different.

The event is modelled on a country show and includes food and cooking competitions with all produce to be auctioned off.

The proceeds from the day, raised from entry fees and auctions, will be donated to Karuah, North Arm Cove and Limeburners Rural Fire Brigades.

Organisers around the region hope everyone will get involved in the local Australia Day events.
