Bulahdelah Central School Captain Maddison Boyd said it was a special opportunity to acknowledge the Anzac spirit.

“I was very proud to lead the school community in this special remembrance ceremony,” she said.

“It was about coming together to reflect on the significance of ANZAC Day and honour all those who have served.”

At Tea Gardens Public School, RSL members Jenny Ross-Henry, Bob McMaster and Ray Prigg shared stories of their service experiences with the students.

Principal Mr Mark Clemson said Ray spoke about the history of the ANZAC spirit and Bob spoke about training dogs to help with war efforts.

Highlighting the ANZAC qualities, Jenny shared the story of Simpson and his Donkey and the bravery he displayed when moving injured soldiers to safety.

“It was wonderful to have the support of the local sub-branch to relay to future generations their stories,” Mr Clemson said.

At each of the ceremonies, students and guests laid wreaths before the sounding of the Last Post and a minute silence, allowing students to pay their respects to the 8000 soldiers who gave their lives at Gallipoli and those who served in later conflicts.

“Many of those who didn’t come home were not much older than us, and these commemorations remind us of the sacrifices that were made,” Maddison said.
