The massive game of hide-and-seek using hand-painted rocks first spread throughout the United States before becoming a phenomenon in Western Australia when a mother wanted to encourage her children to engage with the great outdoors.

The game has now spread to New South Wales, with the Facebook page NSW Rocks gaining in momentum and members.

The aim of the game is to paint flat rocks with bright colours, pictures or slogans and hide them in your local parks and let the online community know you have dropped some off in your area, leaving them to be found by others.

The idea is that other people will then take their children to the park to find the rocks, let the online group know they have been found, then re-hide them somewhere else, the process beginning again.

News Of The Are was alerted to some Medowie drop areas, and spoke to local parents who are participating in this refreshing new game.

Medowie mother Amy Lochhead told News Of The Area, “It’s been a lovely activity to do with my kids, they are having so much fun!”

“We have painted a lot of rocks, and found lots too.”

“It’s a great activity to encourage kids to get outside, experience nature and have lots of fun whilst doing it,” she said.

To join this new activity, search for ‘NSW Rocks’ on Facebook.

News Of The Area has it on very good authority that there are some very cool rocks out there in Medowie parks, just waiting to be discovered.
