After submitting an application, the sisters were selected by a panel of judges to advance to the finals of the competition.

Held recently in Maitland, the girls participated in runway classes, public speaking and photoshoots with the skills learnt showcased in a fashion show in front of hundreds of family, friends and industry experts.

Competing in the Senior Section, thirteen-year-old Jaylee said she enjoyed the experience.

“I enjoyed learning the modelling skills, we were taught how to walk and pose and also positioning on stage,” she said.

“I was a little bit nervous to start being in front of so many people, but after a few walks I relaxed and really enjoyed it.”

The Junior Section proved to be a lot of fun for eleven-year-old sister Maddi.

“Getting dressed up and doing the photo shoot was really good and I also liked learning to do the poses on the runway,” she said.

Youngest sister nine-year-old Taylah was also a little nervous.

“Walking down the runway was a bit scary at first, but I liked getting dressed up and learning the routine for the show,” Taylah said.
With competition finals currently occurring across the country, the program aims to increase the number of Indigenous Models representing the Australian Fashion Industry.

Proud mum Wendy said she was pleased the girls were selected for the finals with the competition helping to develop their skills and confidence.
“It was a really good experience for the girls,” she said.

“They were all a bit nervous to start, but their confidence improved after the first walk on the runway, and they all performed really well.”

For now, the girls are eagerly waiting to see if they will be amongst the top 25 National competitors selected to compete in the Grand Final in Sydney in August this year.
