FRIENDSHIPS abound at the Probus Club of Port Stephens who, as a group, love their outings and their barbecues.

The group recently met at Bagnalls Beach Reserve, a favourite spot for the club’s bi-monthly barbecue .

The blokes donned the mantels of master chefs and were in action delivering the usual great steaks and sausages.

The events have a typical Aussie barbecue feel, with the boys standing around the snags discussing world affairs and the footy, and the ladies having a chat around the table covering everything from upcoming events to holiday plans.

Anne Gibson, President of Probus Nelson Bay, told News Of The Area, “The barbecues are such a relaxing afternoon with lots of eating, chatting and fellowship.”

“It is easy to form friendships in this atmosphere, and prospective and new members are encouraged to come along for this reason.”

“If you are retired or semi-retired and looking to enjoy activities and make new friends, come along to a meeting on the second Thursday of the month, 9.30am at Nelson Bay Bowling Club. You are very welcome to just turn up,” she said.

The group also has regular walks on the first and third Wednesday of each month where members explore the local region’s scenic areas.

There’s also fun golf and croquet, bowls and other activities happening year round.
