‘’Everyone had been invited to bring their favourite teddy bears or dolls and they all went on display,” Carolyn Bye told News Of The Area.

“There were dolls of many shapes and sizes from numerous countries.”

“Some ladies shared their doll and teddy bear stories and we were surprised to find that several were over seventy years old,” Carolyn said.

‘’Cheryl Roberts had prepared small gifts for everyone to make.”

The Skills Day, which is held once a month, is a Baptist Church initiative which encourages residents from the local aged care facilities to take part in a craft activity as well as a discussion.

“The ladies from Peter Sinclair Gardens took home gift-wrapped scented soaps, and potpourri sachets, some of which were placed on coat hangers and all were decorated with ribbons and flowers.”

Carolyn Bye said, “Out on the verandah the men were sandpapering the fragrant wood comfort crosses they were making.”

The morning ended on a high note with a delicious luncheon prepared for the visitors.

Next month, from 10am on Friday 22 June the Skills Day will feature a visit from Jennifer Wenham of the Red Cross.

“Through the year our ladies have been knitting squares for rugs, and making trauma teddies for those who are needy.”

“We will stitch them together and Jennifer will share with us where these useful gifts will go.’’
