Twenty-one thousand dollars was raised at the 19th Angel Billy Golf Classic on 6 November.
Gary Troon told News Of The Area, “I am elated with the funds received this year, so elated, was not expecting that much money.”
This year was especially poignant as a plaque was placed on the 20th hole dedicated to Ron Smith (Dec).
Mr Smith created the Angel Billy Golf Series 19 years ago and raised substantial funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service.
Richard Jones, CEO, Westpac Rescue Helicopter said, “The community of Port Stephens has once again shown its generosity and caring for its region.”
“The Volunteers of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and the sponsors have shown enormous resolve, and again put on a magnificent day of spirit and fundraising. We at the Helicopter thank all those who have supported this day, again.”
To create such a successful event, many volunteers dedicate their time to ensure all runs smoothly on the day.
Jo Holley organises all of the behind the scenes activities, usually things that are unseen but truly valued and essential.
Bryan Smith is the logistics person and co-ordinator of volunteers.
Des Cobb is the catering co-ordinator and attends to sausage on the run, where the participants are given a sausage sandwhich as they go through the course.
