“Can you believe a year has passed already since Boomerang Bags Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest (BBTGHN) was established?” Brooke Feltis said.

“To celebrate this milestone and all that we have achieved with BBTGHN, we would love to invite everyone involved to all get together to share our successes and future hopes for a plastic free town,” Brooke said.

From 10am on Saturday 21 April, the group will hold a first year anniversary celebration, at Bennetts Beach.

“Bring a plate of morning tea and join us at the the picnic tables at the beach, weather permitting “ Brooke said.

“This will coincide with a Boomerang Bags TGHN ‘pop up stall’ where we will have a limited number of beautiful hand crafted bags available for the community.”

Since its inception it’s estimated more than a thousand colourful Boomerang Bags have been made by dedicated volunteers across the region.

“Some have been sold for $2 to fund our ongoing work for purchase of items we were unable to source from donations while many others have been gifted to raised awareness of our cause,” Brooke said.

The big two, Coles and Woolworths have now begun their 12 month campaign to phase out plastic shopping bags.

Brooke added, “Please, no matter how much or how little you have been involved with Boomerang Bags so far, we would love to see you there, please come along and join us to celebrate Boomerang Bags in our community!”
