PLANS for an Activity Park in Bulahdelah are one step closer, after a meeting between MidCoast Council representatives and community organisations last week.
The original concept for the project was developed by Bulahdelah Lions Club, which included plans for an activity centre in the Mountain Park.
Lions Club Park Coordinator Arthur Baker, said the current consultation between Council and the community will allow the original vision to expand.
“This process has been going on for a long, long time, and it has now got from behind doors and into the open where it can get ahead,” he said.
“We will now see how we can continue to fundraise so we can make it bigger and better.”
Mr Baker said the project came about after identifying that there were limited facilities for youth in the area.
The initial idea was to construct a skate park for youth, but the plan was expanded to include exercise equipment for mature people and an educational road system for younger residents.
Bulahdelah Lions Club President Roger Dixon, said the project will benefit the wider community.
“It’s not only positive for the youth, but it’s going to bring something for the whole community,” Mr Dixon said.
“It’s going to have improved picnic facilities and playground areas, and we would hope that this will give things for people in Bulahdelah to do.”
A committee consisting of representatives from MidCoast Council, Lions, schools, police, chamber and other community organisations has now been formed to drive the process forward.
MidCoast Council Community Liaison Officer Sarah Wilkinson said the Lions Activity Park project will be part of a wider community plan, which will be developed later this year.
