Three Implementation Panels have been created to drive progress in each town centre, with residents and local business members representing the community.

The panels will meet quarterly and will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of strategies for these key growth areas and will keep Council accountable to the community.

Steve Peart, Council’s Strategy and Environment Section Manager, says the panels are a great way to ensure the actions identified in strategies are put into practice.

“Each of these town centres has been identified by the NSW government as being important for the growth of Greater Newcastle and the Hunter Region.”

“We don’t write strategies so they can sit on a shelf. It’s important that the key actions identified for our town centres are completed so that we can keep our towns progressing and meet the needs of our growing communities,” said Mr Peart.

“It was great to see so many people put their hand up to take part in panels for Medowie, Nelson Bay, Raymond Terrace and Heatherbrae.”

“We’ve been able to select a broad range of passionate community members including residents and business representatives who want to see their town progress. It’s now time to get to work on implementing these town strategies,” he said.
