No Wednesday Bowls was played today due to constant rain, however the Tea Gardens Mid-Week Pennant team played “out west” at Wallsend.

Playing on grass was always going to be difficult for the team especially on the dead-slow surfaces they have encountered when away from home.

Wallsend was no exception and the side struggled to make an impact.

The Wallsend side clinched the match 72-34. Not good!

The format was three-bowl Triples played over 16 ends with 30 bowlers playing.

The winners were decided on a countback. They were Geoff Page, Noel Jackson and Greg Smith.

Runners-up were Brian McPhie, David Perry and Gary Melrose.

The Wednesday bowlers made way for the Mid-Week Pennant side who were taking on the Mayfield West side in Round 9 of the competition.

With some key players missing, the task was always going to be tough and such was the case, but there was one shining light in the match.

The Merv Mills combination managed a close win 23-22.

The remaining teams fell afoul of “sleeping sickness” at about the 14th end.

One team lost 13 shots in 3 ends after leading to the 14th. Ouch!

The Grade 3 side are well into this completion has a great chance of winning their Section.

Grade 5 had a disappointing result, with many substitutions having to be made, no doubt due to the “unofficial” long weekend.

The remaining two teams could not match it with their opponents and lost heavily.

Nelson Bay won 75-48.

The Grade 6 side, which also have a great chance of making the Sectional play-offs, scored a tight win on the grass at Hexham.

Two teams narrowly lost their matches.

The Ron Webster Four went down 17-19 and the Danny Johnson combination lost 19-20.

It was the Doug Naylor team that saved the day.

They won 27-16 to see Grade 6 take the match 63-55.
