Thirteen of the original class of 16 students, along with their partners and several of their former teachers, gathered at Bulahdelah Bowling Club for a night of celebration and memories.

Reunion coordinator Shirley Perrin (nee Squires), said although a lot had changed in their lives, they were able to pick up where they left off at their 40-year reunion.

“It was great to catch up with old friends, it was a pretty major thing considering it has been 50 years since we did our School Certificate together,” she said.

“It was really interesting to see what everyone has been up to, some people have now retired and are doing a lot of travel, some of us are still working, so it was great to get back together.”

Former Kindergarten teacher Shirley Shultz and Industrial Arts teacher Don Lansdowne cut the reunion cake during the formal part of the evening.

“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, it was well worth the effort of putting it together,” Shirley said.

The class are now looking forward to their 55th Birthday Bash, planned for 2022.

“As we are all getting older, we agreed to have the next reunion in five years’ time,” class member Lyn Styles (nee Spooner) told News Of The Area.

“We were a small class and very close, so it is good to keep in contact.”

Many of the group still live locally, but others travelled from all over NSW and Queensland to attend the reunion.
