Port Stephens Liberal Candidate, Jaimie Abbott joined Port Stephens Duty MLC, Catherine Cusack and members of the Myall Masters at the Tea Gardens Swimming Pool last week for the announcement of the grant.

Ms Abbott said the clubs had been successful in securing grant funding towards the purchase of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) as part of the Local Sports Defibrillator Program.

“Sport is vital part of the Port Stephens community’s social fabric and we need to make sport as safe as possible and for all ages,” Ms Abbott said.

President of Myall Masters Swimming Club, Christopher Lock welcomed the news.

“This funding from the Berejiklian Government will enable us to continue to provide a much-loved physical and social activity for our local community in the safest possible environment,” Chris said.

The eight Port Stephens clubs all get a share of $10,000 in funding.

“However there was a $1,365.00 shortfall, and MidCoast Council has come good to the party with another $682.50 which means the pool will now have a defibrillator right throughout the season from 6:00am to 7:00pm,” Chris added.

State Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres said “Since the commencement of the Program in 2017, the NSW government has provided $985,000 to assist with the purchase of 780 defibrillators for sport and recreation facilities,” Mr Ayres said.

The program will remain open for applications from now until May next year.
