FAMILIES of sporty kids are set to gain a small win from the State Government’s budget.

Parents of kids that participate in sport will be eligible for a $100 rebate per child annually under the new budget initiative which starts next year.
While $100 may not even cover the costs of team registrations and uniforms, it is a small win for family budgets.
The initiative is aiming towards a five percent reduction in childhood obesity in the state.
Cathryn Churchill from Nelson Bay Hockey Club told News Of The Area, “The rebate is a welcome incentive for parents to encourage their kids to be more involved in sport.”
“Most families have all their children involved in playing different sports, which can be a burden on budgets, when each sport has registration, plus expenses such as uniform, equipment and travel.”
“Any assistance from the government will be not only helpful to parents but will encourage greater participation for all the family in sport,” she said.
Port Stephens has a great array of sports that kids can be involved in and each sport has its own supportive community.
