Nurses across the Myall Coast have been asked to join forces, not to serve, but be served, at a special lunch on Friday 25 November.

The get-together at Tillermans Restaurant in Tea Gardens has been organised by retired local nurses Margaret Stephenson-Meere and Norma Glenn.

Their motive is to document the history of nursing in this area before it is lost.

Happy to play host for the upcoming lunch is Tillermans owner Kerry Hodges, herself a graduate nurse.

“I started nursing in 1975 at Royal North Shore,” Kerry told News Of The Area.

Her career took her overseas where she met her husband Peter.

Fast forward a couple of years and Kerry was still nursing part time, but also training to be a chef and running a café.

“I’d be sitting on an esky in the corner in the kitchen and I’d be saying you do this and you do that and I’d be breastfeeding,” Kerry said.

Kerry and Peter have now owned Tillermans for 21 years.

Its predominantly French-based cuisine stems from a love of the food and its heritage.

Ten years ago the couple decided to spend more time in France through the Australian winter months, and now they take groups of locals with them to enjoy the experience.

If you’re a nurse still working or retired there are a few spots left for the very special lunch this Friday.
