OPINION: Whether ice cream or Council – make your selection wisely

DEAR News Of The Area,

I TEACH my grandkids about preferential voting by telling them about a family of ten who can only buy one tub of flavoured ice cream.

Three in the family want liquorice ice cream, one likes strawberry, two like vanilla, two like chocolate and two like caramel.

Seven in the family hate liquorice ice cream but if you only put a ‘1’ beside your favourite you’ll end up having to eat it cause that got the most votes.

If you put your second, third and fourth preference down, a compromise is reached that everyone can live with.

If, in the Council election, voters just put a ‘1’ beside their choice, we’ll end up eating liquorice ice cream for the next four years.

Regards,
Peter LEWIS,
Coffs Harbour.
