Singles championship at Soldiers Point

George, Alan Austen (Marker) and Don.

THE Minor Singles Final was played last week at Soldiers Point Bowling Club before attentive spectators.

The Final, between George Pearson and Don Hutchinson, was a keenly fought contest played in good spirits with some dramatic, close ends.

Bowls Singles is a challenging game requiring concentration and consistency often over three hours or more with tactics being important.

These were evident with George favouring long ends and Don much shorter ones.

After running neck and neck for two hours, Don took a decisive lead by winning the maximum four shots on a short end and then went on to win 31 shots to 22.

Congratulations go to Don who has been on the wrong side of the ledger once or twice in finals!.

New bowlers are welcome at Soldiers Point Bowling Club where they can receive free tuition- contact Terry Antram, Bowls Director, on 49827173.
