Originally hailing from Zimbabwe, the pair met when they began dating at the age of 16 and 17 years of age.

After several months the relationship was broken off after an untruth was told to Ron about Cindy.

Both felt strongly for the other, but each went their separate ways.

Fast forward to June 2011, when after more than 40 years, Cindy looked up Ron on Facebook and found him living in Perth, Australia.

“I couldn’t believe that the years had been so good to her,” Mr Gurr told Bay News Of The Area.

The pair messaged each other for several months, they skyped, spoke over the phone and it didn’t take long to rekindle the love they once felt for each other all those years ago back in Zimbabwe.

On the 1 June 2013, Ron and Cindy became Mr and Mrs Gurr.

Late December 2016, Ron was offered an opportunity for a business prospect here in Nelson Bay.

Ten days later, they both took the leap of faith and gave the majority of their belongings to charity and drove 4000 kms across the Nullabor.

Ron is a classically trained singer, singing at hotels, restaurants and retirement homes.

Cindy is an accomplished author with three books she has previously written with her newest novel called “The Dark Side Of Revenge,” a story about bravery and resourcefulness in the face of abuse and retribution.

Available through Amazon, it stands as a testament to those who have suffered many forms of abuse at the hands of those who should love and protect them.

“I believe that everything I went through in my life prepared me to meet Ron again,” Ms Gurr added.

After conducting the interview, Mr and Mrs Gurr stepped outside for a photograph.

Within minutes, the rain stopped and a beautiful rainbow glowed brightly above them.

A testament to the truth that no matter what you have been through in life, a rainbow which speaks of hope and promise can propel you into a new season of your life.
