The recent Surfboat carnival on Bennett’s Beach in Hawks Nest, was ideal preparation in the lead up to the World Championships.

Four long course races against the best crews from the Central Coast and Hunter Branches tested everyone’s skill and stamina.

“The Salty Pirates just got better with each race “ Peter Rogers told News of The Area “ with a breakthrough first place in the fourth round final.”

“Another milestone for Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club already this season, is our Open Men’s Surfboat Crew competing in their first World Titles event,” Peter said.

Also competing in the Masters World Surf Life Saving Championships will be club member Sharon Taylor.

In the NSW State Championships held in March at Swansea, Belmont, Sharon gained two seconds and a third in beach and surf competition.

“Recently she competed in the Myall Masters Open Swim where she came first in her division,” Peter said.

“Sharon has been training during the winter months and will be very competitive in her events.”

There will be no rest for the boat crew, swept and coached by Greg Ross.

“After Adelaide, they’ll be joining the Under 19 Crew and Masters heading off to Macksville and Scott’s Head the following weekend for rounds three and four of the Streets Surfboat series.”

The Streets Surf Boat Series is the premier surf boat series in Australia with Central Coast and Hunter boat crews taking part in the event for the past 23 years.
