TEA Gardens’ own Mumm’s on The Myall has been selected as a finalist in the 2022 Restaurant and Catering Hostplus Awards.

The restaurant is located at the river’s edge in Tea Gardens and has been nominated as finalist for both the Seafood Restaurant – Informal and Breakfast Restaurant categories.

Owner Jenna Menzie told News of The Area the news shocked the whole team.

“We were so excited to be selected as finalists in both categories,” she said.

“Opening the email made my day and made me so proud of all that we have achieved over the last 12 months,” Ms Menzie said.

Finalists are selected from all regional New South Wales, excluding Sydney.

“It’s a great achievement for our business and staff to be selected and be up against other restaurants from all over the state.

“We’re extremely grateful that the local community has continued to support us since 2003, without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” Jenna said.

Like many other hospitality businesses, Mumm’s on The Myall was hit hard by the pandemic, which left Jenna and her husband Nathanial anxious for the future.

“It has been a really tough few years; having our restaurant close for lengthy periods of time twice and having to change to offering takeaway only.

“It was hard not knowing what was going to come next and constantly adjusting to the rule changes,” she said.

Ms Menzie says the pandemic was scary for not only herself, but the existing staff too.

“It was also really hard on all of the existing staff – not knowing what was happening in the hospitality industry and how it was going to impact their jobs.

“It was really scary for all of us.”

Despite everything, Mumm’s on The Myall bounced back and is now anxiously awaiting the presentation gala on 19 September.

“We were able to get through the worst and come back and be acknowledged for our hard work,” said Ms Menzie.

“It feels like we are getting back to normal.”
