But until recently there was always one big problem.

They had no safe way to get out of the water other than to scramble across rocks and oyster shells.
To the rescue, our local police.

Senior Constable Dave Coyle had the idea of using money raised from the local Police Charity Golf Day to fund the construction of a ladder to attach to the wharf.

“I’d seen the kids jumping in all the time and they couldn’t get out so I approached Steve Ellicott (Tea Gardens Engineering) and in the blink of an eye it was done,” Dave Coyle told News Of The Area.

Beau Bradbury built the stainless steel ladder in a few days and Dan Aldridge from MidCoast Council didn’t hesitate to tick the box in record time to approve its installation.

“This may seem to be a small thing, but it’s not, this is something that this town has needed for a long time,” MidCoast Councillor Len Roberts said.

“What it does show is the responsibility of our local police,” Mr Roberts said.

“They saw a need and they fixed it.”

“What we have here is a magnificent set of steps.”

Of course final word went to the kids, “We love it.”
