Monday 22nd October: Robyn Beaumont and myself travelled to Raymond Terrace for Round 1 of Newcastle District Annis Young Competition. There were 31 competitors in this Consistency Competition which is held annually. Robyn and I qualified for this event by reaching the final in our club competition. Sadly, due to the luck of the draw, (or bad luck for me), Robyn and I had to bowl against each other the loser is “knocked out” of the competition. After 27 ends Robyn reached the required 150 shots while I only scored 116. On Tuesday Robyn bowled at Heaton Birmingham Gardens, 2 games to be played, she won both of these. Wednesday was a rest day then the semi final was contested on Thursday at Merewether Bowling Club. Unfortunately Robyn lost this contest to Melissa (Missy) Witt from Nelson Bay 153 v 137, Missy went on to gain 2nd place. The competition was won by Adele Pearson from Soldiers Point. Congratulations Robyn on gaining 3rd place, a great achievement.

Tuesday 23rd October: Social bowls as usual format for play 3 games of triples and a game of Fours. Prior to play President Robyn Webster welcomed our newest member Jan Coomer. It appeared Beverly Thrift, Julie Kennedy and Karen McPhie were going to be winners in their contest against Francis Betar, Lynda Richards and Maynie Roberts. The score on the 5th end 8 to 0. Thankfully Maynie’s team rallied claiming victory by 4 shots, 18 v 14. A good win for Jan Coomer, Pam Gilchrist and Sandra Leisemann 20 v Sheril Johnson, Carolyn Bywater and Karen Green 13. In the Fours Judi Polak, Dorothy Thompson, Bette Saillard and Deyonne Page demolished Ingrid Luck, Bev Rhodes, Bev Stephens and Lynne Green 24 v 6. An evenly matched contest against Dawn May, Lily Smith and Dale Winter 17 v Jean Glover, Jeanette Emmett and Pat Baker 15. The winners on the day winning with the highest margin were Judi, Dorothy, Bette and Deyonne. The winner of the voucher for the Myall Bistro and Café was Pat Baker. Many thank to them for supporting our club with the raffle prize.

Thursday 25th October: What a great turn up of bowlers for our fun Thursday bowls. Everyone’s a winner on Thursdays, 12 ends of bowls for $5 a great chance to “have a go”, improve your game. Good to see Francis Betar playing Skip. Three games of Triples was played, Ingrid Luck “swinger” lead in one game. Results are as follows Bev Dunn, Dorothy Thompson and Francis Betar 7 v Jan Coomer, Jo Younghusband and Lynda Richards 10. Jan Kuzmic, Bev Rhodes and Lynne Green 12 v Ronnie Bradley (visitor), Bev Stephens and Maynie Roberts 15. Ingrid Luck, Judi Polak and Bette Saillard 8 v Ingrid, Jean Glover and Loretta Baker 15.

Coming events: Versatility Day 30th October. Round 1 Novice Consistency November 1st. District Rose Bowl 9th November our members Robyn Beaumont and Kayelene Pearson are competing in this event.
