PENNANT news: Unfortunately Judy McGavock has stepped down, (due to unforeseen circumstances) as Skip for the Grade 4 Blue side. Dale Cameron has replaced her as Skip. Deyonne Page has now joined the Grade 2 side. On Tuesday 2nd April the Grade 2 played their first game against Soldiers Point and came away with 4 points. Our Grade 4 Blue team v Nelson Bay Red was washed out. The Grade 4 Yellow side travelled to Adamstown but due to the rain this game was transferred to Raymond Terrace. The Yellow squad added another 5 points to their tally. On Thursday 4th April all teams bowled at home and with great results. Grade 2 V Kotara, Grade 4 Blue v Nelson Bay Blue and Grade 4 Yellow v Merewether resulted in 3 wins, each Grade gaining 4 points each. Great bowling ladies, all sides are in with a chance of bringing home a flag. Thanks to Kathie Rimmer for umpiring. Next weeks games, Grade 2 bowl at home on the 9th and 11th April and Grade 4 are away on the Tuesday and have a Bye on Thursday. Prior to play on Thursday members and visitors joined in to wish Sandra Leisemann a happy “0” birthday.

Social bowls: No play on Tuesday due to the rain. Format for Thursday was a game of Triples, a good win for Trish Ward, Bev Dunn and Judy McGavock 16 v Margaret Wigman, Dorothy Thompson and Carol Hayden 7. Social bowls continues as usual during the Pennant Season.

Sadly long time member of TGWBC Verlie Gray passed away on Saturday 30th March. Verlie transferred to our Club in 2004 and remained a member till 2018 not re- joining due to ill health. Verlie bowled in our Pennant sides in 2005, 2006 and 2013. In 2005 she won the Fourth Annual Grange Trophy Day bowling alongside Joyce Yeates and Lynne Green and was Runner Up for this event in 2007 teamed with Merle Graham and Elaine Barbie. In 2010, Verlie won this event again with Barbra Fakes and Sandra Leisemann. Merle Sargeant and Verlie were the winners in 2007, Aileen Balk’s Trophy Day. In 2017, her and Tom Parkinson were Runners Up in the Mixed Pairs Competition. Verlie was a great supporter of TGWBC she was on the Social Committee from 2007 – 2010 and again in 2013. In 2005 she was the Publicity Officer. Verlie was a truly beautiful lady and will be sadly missed by all.
