Last Thursday, a B double D truck caught fire on the Pacific Highway at Bulahdelah, closing the highway to traffic in both direction and causing major delays for motorists.

Rural Fire Service Crews from Bulahdelah, Wootton, Tuncurry and Pindimar/Tea Gardens were joined by NSW Fire and Rescue to help bring the fierce blaze under control.

High voltage power lines near the crash added to the difficulties for firefighters.

While the truck was gutted, remarkably the driver escaped uninjured.

Just a day earlier another semi trailer was destroyed by fire on the New England Highway at Maitland.

As of late last week, 15 people had died on NSW roads, 13 fatalities occurring country roads.

And an update on that fire which destroyed more than 350 hectares of a Pine Plantation in Tea Gardens.

Our local RFS has been keeping a close watch on the area, putting out spot fires in the area that now looks like a barren wasteland.

Recent rains have also helped the fire crews.
