FORTUNATELY, the rain clouds held off for the official opening of the wandering path at Bill King Aged Care Facility, Fingal Bay.

Volunteers and pink ladies work tirelessly to ensure the residents of the facility have everything they need.

Mollie Carter, President of the craft group for many years, said, “My mum and dad had Alzheimer’s and at the time I was so busy with their care and needs that I wasn’t able to do fun crafts with them.”

“For me, this is an opportunity to support those going through what I did and the reward is seeing the pure joy on the residents’ faces when we create something worthwhile and practical for them.”

The volunteers organise two fashion parades per year and hold a craft fair annually.

The volunteers are busy year round making and creating items for the craft fair, which raises much needed funds to support those most vulnerable within our community.

Due to the dedication of the volunteers, a wandering path has just been completed and is now being enjoyed by residents.

Shirley Aldred is one such person. She told News Of The Area, “It’s really beautiful, you can come out here and feel very relaxed.”

Carole Gorman, Care Co-Ordinator, said, “We are so grateful to the craft ladies and volunteers for the garden and what they do for our residents, they add a lot of value to the lives of those in our care.”

“We are also fortunate to work for a very supportive organisation.”

Preparations are well underway for the upcoming Fingal Haven Village Craft Fair where you will be able to pick up a bargain and support a necessary service within the community.
