Winter brings out only the keen bowlers

1 June: What better way to proclaim Winter than with a game of bowls?

Fifty-two bowlers thought so when they turned out to play in the Wednesday Nominated Triples competition.

Winter did not let them down either as the conditions were somewhat cloudy and cold but, thankfully, fine.

Outrageous scores were the order of the day. I mean +55!! Who has +55?

Well, I am told, the team of Lon Richards, Lochlam Hair and Mark Hair, (resplendent in a new hat), had a +55 to run out easy winners.

On a more respectable score of +41, filling second place was John Younghusband, Ross Barry and Danny Johnson.

I believe the Stewards are looking into the winning team but I think they perhaps should look at who they “played”!

3 June: A stronger field of 22 bowlers today attended to compete for the $300.00 jackpot in the Friday Jackpot Pairs.

Paradoxically, it was a triples team that won the day on a very respectable +10.

They were; Ken Devlin, Kevin Barbie and Sean Mearrick.

They edged out Matt Rumble and Keith Ellis on +8 and Bruce Evertitt and Tom Parkinson on +4.

The jackpot was not won but I have a confident feeling it will go off very soon.

Who will win it? Might as well be you!

5 June: Well this weekend was supposed to be the opening round of the Club Major Singles Championship.

As I write this the rain is just bucketing down so the Match Committee have postponed the opening games until Saturday 18 June.

There are some great match-ups and the assured gallery are in for a treat.

Needlessly to say there were no Sunday Introduction to Bowls even contemplated and the much awaited visit from the East Maitland Social Bowlers went ahead with plenty of eating and drinking, but without a bowl played!

The entry form for the Club Triples Championship has been posted and will close on Friday 2 July.

This competition should attract a large field with many teams from Wednesday Nominated Triples sure to enter.

Pennant players are reminded that the Pennant Bash will be held on Friday 17 June.

See you there!
