Bulahdelah’s Leigh Brown more than doubled her goal for Leukemia

Bulahdelah resident, Leigh Brown, has raised over $1300.00 for the Leukemia Foundation by being sponsored to shave off all her hair.

Leigh explained that she chickened out for many years but then realised, “It’s only hair!”

30 March marks the anniversary of her grandfather’s fight with cancer and after talking to some families about what it is like to have a relative be diagnosed and live with cancer or leukemia, she decided that this was time to take action herself.

The original goal was to raise $560.00 as this would pay for accommodation for  a family from a regional area to be close to their loved ones.

But this goal was quickly surpassed through family and friends donating, community members making pledges and with donation boxes at the Lady Jane Motor Inn, Myall Hair & Beauty and Bulahdelah Farm & Garden.

When it came to the day to have her hair shaved off, Leigh said she felt anxious and nervous but was laughing.

“The most difficult part was when my plait was chopped off!” Leigh said.

Leigh Brown said that with her newly shaven head and knowing how much money she has raised, she hasn’t stopped smiling.

“I’m glad that I could be a good example for my kids and make a sacrifice.”

Leigh Brown works at the Bulahdelah Cabin & Van Park and will be accepting donations for the Leukemia Foundation until the end of May if there are any readers who would like to contribute to this cause.
