MEDOWIE Mums, a Facebook online community group, has begun organising weekly catch ups in Medowie as a way to ensure that all parents, dads included, feel they are supported on their parenting journey.

Parents are more likely to experience anxiety and depression during the perinatal period (pregnancy through to when the child is three years old) than any other time in their lives.

Intervention during this critical period is essential to improve the health of mothers and their ability to nurture their child, and for infants to develop a secure attachment with their mother.

While the best advice for parents experiencing feelings of anxiety or depression is to speak with their medical health professional, it is also a wonderful opportunity for our community of parents to look out for each other and offer strong support networks for each other.

With this idea in mind, ‘Medowie Mums’ Facebook page has initiated catch ups at ‘Sportz Cafe’ on Ferodale Road, in the Medowie Sports Centre Complex.

Parents can join the online Facebook group, and keep their eye on new catch up dates and days each week.

Planning events like this takes the pressure off people to find the courage to organise a catch up.

One very important, and relatively new, piece of news to share with Medowie parents is the widely unknown fact that parents are now able to enrol their child in the creche for a 90 minute session, and be anywhere in the centre during that allocated time.

Parents no longer need to be gym members to use the creche facility.

It is open to all patrons of the Medowie Sports Centre, with the cafe, squash courts and planned pool,  included.

Medowie Mother, Skye Welsh, told News Of The Area, “It’s a fantastic initiative, and I for one I will certainly use the service.”

“I have a newborn, and it’s nice to be able to give my 18 month old some time to play and do activities in a supervised environment at the creche, and to give her some extra attention that is naturally now divided with a newborn at home as well.”

The fee is $5 per child for the 90 minute session, and bulk packs can be purchased at $40 for 10 visits and $70 for 20 visits.

Join Medowie Mums on Facebook to keep up to date with new events, and feel free to join the group for a cuppa and a chat.

The sport centre is an incredible gem for Medowie.
This allows us new mums to have an hour to ourselves to enjoy a cup of coffee and know our kids are being entertained and having a blast! Us mums will feel guilt free from having time out!
The crèche is great, clean modern and so welcoming, not even mention the amazing coffee at the cafe!
Think a social game of Mum Squash is next on the agenda!
Can’t wait to have the pool open!
