THE Port Stephens local council elections have some new, and some well known, faces standing as candidates, with the announcement of the Labor party endorsed candidates.

The Mayoral candidate is Desmond Maslen.

The West Ward candidates are, in order of ticket, Giacomo Arnott, Bobbie Antonic, and Vicki McLaughlin.

The Central Ward candidates are, in order of ticket, Desmond Maslen, Melissa Pond, and Peter McKenna.

The East Ward candidates are, in order of ticket, David Simm, Roz Armstrong, and Jim Morrison.

The team has expressed a desire to focus on the needs of the community.

The Labor party candidates feel that the people of Port Stephens are in need of a Council that will bring about positive change, based on fairness, prosperity, openness and transparency.

Mayoral candidate Desmond Maslen told News Of The Area, “The feedback for our plans so far has been great.”

It shows people can truly see how passionate we are, and that our intention to follow due process and make things equal for everyone has touched home.”

“It is my passion for equality, a fair go for all and an open transparent governance which is guiding me,” he said.

“I am looking forward to the day when everyone in this area can know with certainty that their voice is being heard and respected,” Mr Maslen said.

Candidate for East Ward Councillor, David Simm, told News Of The Area, “Residents from the local area have expressed concerns to me, particularly about the way Council has approved new developments in the area without listening to local concerns.”

“Developer voices are not more important than local voices.”

“Locals wish to keep the unique character of Port Stephens and I will make sure the local voice is heard,” he said.

Candidate for West Ward Councillor, Giacomo Arnott, told News Of The Area, “I’m really excited to be part of the team at the upcoming election.”

“We will be pursuing an agenda of transparency and accountability.”

“Key ways of doing this include the reintroduction of the webcam system for Council meetings, and much better community involvement in decisions at all levels,” he said.
