Man’s body located near Wagga Wagga

Police have located a body in the Murrumbidgee River near Wagga Wagga, believed to be a man that went missing on Christmas Day.

About 6.45pm on Thursday 25 December 2014, two men were swimming in the Murrumbidgee River at Oura Beach, 15km north east of Wagga Wagga, when they got swept down the river.

One man, aged in his mid 20’s, managed to swim to shore. The other man, an Iranian national aged 25, was swept away.

Today about 8.30am (Monday 29 December 2014), members of the NSW Volunteer Rescue Association
(VRA) located the body of a man, 1.5km downstream from Oura Beach

The man has not yet been formally identified but is believed to be the 25-year-old Iranian national.

Officers attached to Wagga Wagga Local Area Command are conducting investigations into the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
