ALBERT Einstein once said, “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music, I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.”

For one Medowie business owner, appreciating the link between a life of music and quality education, has led to a successful local enterprise.

Dani Tuppurainen of Medowie Dani’s Music Studio, saw an opportunity six years ago to share her love of music and working with children by establishing her own music education studio.

With classes held weekly in her purpose built rooms, Mrs Tuppurainen provides classes for 2-4 year olds through the ‘Little Musik Makers’ program.

“Students learn to sing, move to music, play a variety of tuned and untuned percussion instruments, and learn basic music skills, concepts and terminology,” said Mrs Tupperainen.

“We listen to a variety of music genres, practice listening skills and learn about instruments.”

When asked what the benefits are of learning music from such a young age, Mrs Tupperainen said, “Music and movement programs enhance cognitive, language, physical, creative and social-emotional development, as well as a love and appreciation for music itself.”

She also conducts piano lessons for students from 5 years to adult, both at her studio and at Medowie Public School.

Mrs Tuppurainen said, “We have a lovely end of year Christmas concert where students get to show off the pieces they have worked hard on all year, for their family and friends.”

Apart from the benefits for children, Mrs Tupperainen experiences many benefits herself.

She has been able to combine her greatest passions with business success, and sees opportunities to expand by continually adding classes, purchasing new instruments and adding new themes.

“I love seeing the little faces run up to the music room each week, busting to come in, eager to start their self-declared ‘own special music class’.

“I also have several students who have taken piano lessons with me for years now, who all started off in my Early Childhood Classes.”
