Messengers of Peace is a global initiative, launched by the World Organisation of the Scouting Movement (WOSM), based on the WOSM slogan of Creating a Better World, globally by acting locally.

The group have been busy collecting coloured pencils and colouring-in books to distribute to the hospitals, women’s shelters and police stations in the area.

This will enable children in hospital and whose families are in crisis to be able to have a creative outlet to help them through some tough times.

The Group has also been collecting five Cent Pieces which they then laid end to end across the Medowie Community Centre Hall on Wednesday night, to see how long a chain they could make.

After counting, they had collected $95, which will be donated to World Vision Australia, to help children in third world countries access clean water.

By these simple acts, the Scouting children of Medowie have learnt that they can help other children both locally and globally.

Medowie Scout Leader Leesa Moore told News Of The Area, “We are proud of Medowie Scouts participating in the five cent drive to make a difference for a community in a 3rd world country.”

“The children enjoyed creating a 5 cent coin snake using the coins they have bought in from home, and we are proud of their selfless efforts!”

1st Medowie Scout Group meets Tuesday nights at 6:30pm for Scouts (ages 11-14) and Venturers (15-18), and Wednesday nights at 6pm for Joeys (Age 6-7) and Cubs (Age 8-10).
