Local volunteers will head to registered Clean Up sites at Limeburners Creek, North Arm Cove, Pindimar, Tea Gardens Waterfront and Wang Wauk on Sunday morning to help remove the rubbish.

Many local students will also participate in the National Schools Clean Up Day on Friday 3 March.

Twelve-year-old Amber Cunningham, who has taken part in the annual cleanup campaign for several years, said drink cans and food wrappings are the most common types of rubbish picked up.

“There is so much rubbish that gets dropped on the ground, it doesn’t look good and it’s bad for the environment,” she said.

“There are some really beautiful places in this area and the rubbish just spoils the view.”

Amber told News Of The Area she gets involved to help keep the parks tidy, making them more enjoyable to use.

Chairman and Founder of Clean Up Australia Ian Kiernan is calling on all Australians to get involved.

“There’s never been a better time to get rid of rubbish that is accumulating on neighbourhood streets and beaches, in parks, bushland and waterways,” Mr Kiernan said.

“Now is your chance to gather your friends and family, team mates and colleagues together to join thousands of fellow Australians to clean up your local environment.”
